There a 3 Syriac Fonts.:

ESTRANGUELO:

The Estranguelo or Capital letters. This is the monumental script that is used by all Syriacs and unifies them. It means Sert Ewanguelion or the sript of the Gospel.

Some people say it comes from the Greek round. That is totally incorrect because Estranguelo is Square and corresponds to the square Hebrew (Hebreu Carré).

SERTO:

Serto is the cursive writing. It simply means “script”. It is supposed to be used only as cursive and not as monumental on book covers of churhes entrances. But some people decided falsly that serto defines the maronite identity in the script. Again, this is totally incorrect because Estranguelo is the font used on the most important Maronite monuments like Ilige and Bkerké.

NESTORIAN or EASTERN:

This font is also called sometimes Chaldean or Assyrian because it is used by the Eastern Syriacs. It is simply a mixture between Serto and Estranguelo. It also uses a particular form of Dolat and Rish.

    • What is Garshouné font ? Garshouné (Syriac ܓܪܫܘܢܝ, Arabic كرشوني) designs Arabic writings using the Syriac alphabet.

Garshouné comes from “Garshom”, the son of Moses meaning “the foreigner”. This is how Syriacs, like Maronites, called the Arabic language written in their syriac script. Because for Maronites, Arabic is a foreign language (bishop Boutros Gemayel).

There is no G nor é in Arabic,  so the word Garshouné had to be written by the Arabs Karshouni. By extension, Garshouné means writing any language in syriac script.

The words of our logo are taken from the inscriptions on the entrance of the Maronite Patriarchate of Ilige 1276 AD quoting Psalm 44:5-8
